Thoughts about Zune vs. iPod

The site scobleizer has a good article on why the Zune will fail against the iPod. The author brings up a number of good points. I think that the two camps have firmly taken a position and only time will tell who the winner is. Well, hopefully the ultimate winner will be the consumer.

Is the Zune really ready for prime time?

I am starting to wonder if Microsoft is just pushing this out the door only to capture the holiday buying frenzy. Think about it this “iPod killer” has had very little press or exposure. We are less than a month away from the Zune sitting on store shelves and we have not seen much from Microsoft. The majority of Zune exposure is from insiders or leaks, be they intentional or not. Microsoft has also failed to secure a number of domains that you would think would be important. Is this an mistake by a hurried marketing department or a huge oversight? It makes me think that this year the Zune launch is nothing more than a beta test. Attract the gadget freaks and those who have to have the latest and greatest. You know, use the early adopters to identify the bugs or additional features that would make this thing polished. They may not want the huge exposure until they can determine if the Zune will really be able to get off the ground. Microsoft has always had a long built-up marketing campaign before launching any sizable product. So where is it? Come on Microsoft lure us away from our shiny iPods and feed us the hype we love to hate.
